Remembrance Day 2011
Today is a very ‘auspicious’ 11.11.11.
It’s also my 36th birthday.
And most importantly, it’s Remembrance Day here in Australia.
It’s a day to commemorate the official end of World War I in 1918, which ended in the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month.
Google’s ode to this day is the red remembrance poppy on its search page (see photo).
I am honoured to be celebrating my birthday on such a significant and meaningful day.
In remembrance of all the people who have fought and died for Australia, it’s freedom, it’s culture, it’s land.
Lest we forget.
They went with songs to the battle, they were young.
Straight of limb, true of eyes, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted,
They fell with their faces to the foe.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.
