Top 5 Yummy Mummy Celebrity Makeovers

This year, I’m reviewing my role as a mother what with my eldest now starting high school.

Technically, he’s in middle school. But since he’s moving from his old Primary School to a Secondary College, he’s taking the bus home, he’s spending a couple of hours on homework each night, he’s on the phone more hours than I care to know about, and a myriad other things that I wish I wasn’t quite so aware of either, well, yes he’s in high school.

Can somebody spell R-E-I-N-V-E-N-T-I-O-N?

So I thought I’d look for some inspiration in the style stakes via the ever-present world of celebrities. Below are some of my favourite famous Mums who’ve turned into more engaged, and certainly a whole lot more interesting, people post-bubs. Not to mention more beautiful and even more stylish.

And in this journey of life and motherhood, a little bit of inspiration always goes a long way.

5. Nicole Ritchie

Back in the day, we had no idea why she was famous, and neither did she.  But now the girl has turned into a woman and we definitely know why she’s famous.

Her style is definitely boho, and she has a lot of fun with it! And it takes her from casual daywear to full-on nighttime glamour without fail. But it’s not the style that makes the woman, it’s the woman that has made the style! And oh, how amazing has this mum’s style been in motherhood, business and beyond.

4. Angelina Jolie

Pre-babies, she was just another screwed-up Hollywood star. But fast forward through a few headline-grabbing adoptions and pregnancies and she is one hot-rockin’ Mumma, with definite substance to her style!

Of course the man-accessory known as Brad Pitt always ups the style stakes, but you can be sure he’s there by her side because of pure love for this beautiful woman and mother.

3. Kate Winslet

Hers was the role that made box-office history in the last century. I was gaga over that film and it helped hubby and I through many fights when I was pregnant with my eldest (yes, the same one who’s now in high school) — as the peace offering was always “Do you wanna watch Titanic?”. And since it was in theatres for months, it pretty much got me through my first trimester! Happy days!

And the English rose has certainly blossomed into her own in the past few years, starting with a serious body overhaul (the kind that’s believable and attainable even by mere mortals like us who don’t have the ability to bankroll for a plastic surgeon) and to-die-for body con dresses that hugged our Kate in all the right places in all the awards shows where she has earned her place in the serious business of acting.

Look who’s the queen of the world now!

2. Reese Witherspoon

I have to confess, I’ve always felt like a kindred spirit with the petite actress because I myself am challenged in the height department. Certainly her CV is not at all diminutive, and there’s just something about Reese that sets her in a class all her own.

A certain style, grace and elan that’s reserved for those who’ve been blessed with beauty and brains and yes, children. Nothing beats wearing the multiple hats of motherhood to make one into the most well-rounded, multi-faceted, multi-tasking uber-woman with style!

1. Julia Roberts

Proving that a dazzling smile can really go a long way, Julia and her long legs (clad in those ubiquitous thigh-high boots) have made great strides by winning Oscar glory and showing off a reasonably fit mummy tummy in a bikini. I say ‘reasonably’ because we can believe that she had enough common sense not to have it tucked in by a plastic surgeon, or that she hasn’t been pumping it out intensely with a personal trainer.

She was always my number 1 favourite celebrity and actress after she made my post-second-baby recovery a whole lot more enjoyable with TV reruns of Notting Hill (and The Bachelor, which hubby both got sick of after watching me watch them over and over).

But knowing that we both have a baby belly and having her wear hers like a badge for all the world to see — well, somebody say reinvention!

Julia is, after all, only just a girl, just like the rest of us.
