Happy Independence Day Yesterday!
Happy Independence Day to all the Filipinos all over the world!
(Sorry I missed posting this yesterday because I was having a brain-numbing sinusitis attack.)
Officially, yesterday the 12th of June was Philippine Independence Day and despite the mucus trap that was my head, I managed to get myself up out of bed and put on a patently patriotic blue shirt with the Philippine map in yellow (the incoming President’s campaign colour, as inherited from his mother Cory Aquino). I couldn’t do any less but accessorize in yellow dangling earrings, a yellow bangle and a yellow crystal bracelet.
I’ll keep it distinctly Filipino here by acknowledging the fact that every Pinoy and his dog dream of being in showbiz. Apparently, we all just have day jobs and are all secretly hoping to get a break in showbiz whether in music or film. And finally, here’s a nod to our unseverable tie with Uncle Sam and their enduring legacy of smoking (amongst other insidious habits of the pop culture variety).
We’ve certainly come a long way, from being lumped as a malnourished 3rd world country that always manages to cheat death as epitomized by the lovable Palito (who passed away early this year), we’re now able to see ourselves as citizens of the world taking our rightful place in the global village (aka the internet). That new image is of course epitomized by none other than the most showbiz of all Filipino young celebrities, KC.
