Be Fearless in the New Year

All of us, at one point or another in our lives, have probably thought that ‘mistakes and failures are bad’.  Therefore it is best to avoid them, and in so doing  avoid doing things that could lead up to them.  So that has most likely made us second guess every move we make in life, love, business, parenting, public speaking, asking for a raise, asking for a refund, etc.

But what if there is a different way, a better way, to look at these so-called mistakes and failures?

Here’s a quote from one of the most suave, confident and poised gentlemen who has ever walked (or danced on) the earth:

“The higher up you go, the more mistakes you are allowed.  Right at the top, if you make enough of them, it’s considered to be your style.” — Fred Astaire

I’m originally from the Philippines and we love our slapstick comedy and there is this one skit (with different variations, of course, for different TV shows or movies) where a bumbling, stumbling guy clumsily falls over to land in front of some very posh people (or maybe even the girl of his dreams), and then in the most dignified manner he can muster brushes himself off and says in effect “I actually meant to do that”.

Why not, as we face this coming year and maybe while we’re trying to get together our yearly goals and resolutions (or maybe not whatever the case may be), be as fearless as that guy or as suave as Fred Astaire, or as cute as Holly Golightly, and make as many attempts as we possibly can on anything and everything we want to do? And if we stumble along the way, brush ourselves off in a mildly fabulous way and exclaim “Actually, I meant to do that. It’s my style.”

Have the best New Year, yummy mummies! Take care!
